[00:04.67]More than one hundred [00:06.37]teenage musicians recently [00:08.90]attended a summer camp [00:10.50]in Los Angeles to learn about [00:13.04]the music business. [00:14.83]Some of the advice they received [00:17.16]came from the youngest member [00:19.55]of the Jonas Brothers, [00:20.86]eighteen-year-old Nick. [00:23.10]NICK JONAS: "Social media [00:24.46]was incredibly important [00:25.32]for my brothers [00:26.06]and I at the beginning [00:26.66]of our career and still is today. [00:32.55]With Twitter and YouTube [00:35.74]and Facebook, there are [00:37.14]so many instant ways [00:38.09]to connect with your fans." [00:39.08]Nick Jonas appeared [00:40.58]in Broadway musicals [00:41.72]before he became a pop star [00:43.91]with his brothers. [00:45.25]Other music professionals [00:47.44]also shared their knowledge [00:49.09]at the week-long camp. [00:50.98]The annual event is part of [00:53.43]"Grammy in the Schools," [00:55.12]a project from the organizers [00:57.27]of the music industry's [00:59.61]Grammy Awards. [01:01.15]The camp gives students [01:05.33]a chance to perform or to learn [01:08.12]music production skills. [01:10.01]Ben LoPiccolo worked [01:12.49]on his skills as a music reporter. [01:15.03]BEN LOPICCOLO: "I found [01:15.73]that I really enjoyed writing [01:17.77]and telling people [01:18.62]about music that I like to [01:20.25]kind of expand their taste." [01:22.19]These teens hope to be part [01:24.53]of an industry that is going [01:26.62]through big changes. [01:27.91]Kristen Madsen [01:30.20]at the Grammy Foundation [01:31.58]points to the influence [01:33.39]of social networking on sites [01:36.42]like Facebook and Twitter. [01:39.06]KRISTEN MADSEN: "I would say [01:39.66]that that's probably [01:40.55]the biggest theme [01:41.45]that you can see, [01:42.19]is watching the artists [01:43.54]and the professionals come through [01:44.83]and talk about, there are new ways [01:46.52]and new roadmaps for kids [01:48.56]to succeed in the music industry, [01:49.91]and they have a lot more access [01:51.90]to doing it themselves." [01:53.09]Thirteen-year-old Greyson Chance [01:55.74]is about to release his first album. [01:58.73]He told the other young musicians [02:01.51]that his career began [02:03.25]with a music video on YouTube. [02:06.54]Giovanni Quattrochi hopes [02:09.72]for a career as a music producer. [02:11.81]He likes the way music is changing. [02:14.75]GIOVANNI QUATTROCHI: "Especially [02:15.70]with hip-hop, [02:16.49]there's a lot of sampling [02:17.79]of different genres of music. [02:19.68]And I think I'm excited to see [02:21.17]where music is going to go." [02:22.22]Music is also becoming [02:23.71]more international, says Elise Go, [02:26.69]who hopes to be a songwriter. [02:28.73]ELISE GO: "I'm also pretty excited. [02:30.48]I think it's very cool. [02:31.47]I'm really interested in Korean [02:33.36]and Asian-genre music. [02:35.40]It's like Korean and Chinese pop music, [02:38.29]and they're using American influences [02:41.03]in their music, and I feel [02:44.02]that's very cool to hear, [02:45.02]a pop song you think you'd hear [02:46.71]on the radio in America, [02:47.71]in another language." [02:49.34]Brian London plays keyboard [02:51.35]for Lady Gaga and other artists. [02:54.09]He told the students that succeeding [02:57.32]in music is about hard work, [02:59.96]not just talent. [03:02.30]BRIAN LONDON: "Being a great player [03:03.84]-- everybody's a great player. [03:05.18]So a lot of artists, management labels [03:08.17]and music directors look at more [03:09.66]than just being a great player [03:11.50]in order to be hired for a gig." [03:13.00]And that's the VOA Special English [03:15.39]Education Report. [03:17.18]You can watch a video report [03:19.17]about the Grammy camp at www.hxen.com .
