[00:05.13]India could pass the United States [00:08.52]in the number of Internet users [00:11.35]in less than two years. [00:13.70]A new report says India reached one hundred [00:17.43]twelve million users in September. [00:20.43]That makes India the third largest Internet market [00:24.92]after China and the United States. [00:28.80]China reported four hundred eighty-five million [00:32.79]Internet users in June, [00:34.93]and there are more than two hundred seventy million [00:38.85]Internet users in the United States. [00:42.26]The Internet and Mobile Association of India says [00:47.39]Internet growth was especially strong [00:49.99]among people in smaller towns and cities. [00:54.37]There was also a large increase in Internet use [00:59.00]among school-aged children and college students. [01:02.84]This is partly because of the growing number [01:06.82]of e-learning services and educational websites. [01:11.54]Subho Roy is president of the Internet [01:15.48]and Mobile Association of India. [01:18.59]He says another big change this year is that more [01:23.61]and more people are using the Internet from home. [01:27.60]SUBHO ROY: "Last year the old pattern was still there [01:30.45]-- cyber cafes being top, then office, and then home. [01:33.14]So this dramatic change has come about this year [01:35.17]-- a very, very great movement in the home-use segment. [01:39.16]People are probably buying their own broadband connections [01:42.21]and accessing it from their own devices [01:43.84]rather than going to common service points." [01:45.44]This growth in Internet use has also led [01:49.20]to an increase in online businesses. [01:52.65]Deepinder Goyal owns Zomato.com. [01:57.62]His website provides information about restaurants [02:01.85]and nightlife activities across India. [02:05.41]Mr. Goyal got the idea for Zomato while working [02:10.40]at a consulting firm three years ago. [02:13.33]He and his coworkers kept restaurant menus in their office [02:18.18]so they could order lunch from different places. [02:21.36]DEEPINDER GOYAL: "We scanned these menu cards and put them online. [02:24.15]So starting an Internet venture was actually an experiment [02:27.84]and it worked out really well [02:30.27]and currently we are getting around two million people [02:33.41]just looking up menu cards on our website every month." [02:35.67]Zomato now provides information on more than [02:39.36]seventeen thousand restaurants across India. [02:42.98]It covers areas from the Dehli national capital region [02:47.48]to Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. [02:51.90]Deepinder Goyal says the growth in Internet use [02:56.49]at home has been good for business. [02:59.37]Zomato used to depend mostly on business people [03:04.02]-- or "corporates" -- going online at work. [03:07.50]DEEPINDER GOYAL: "So earlier we used to see [03:10.10]that around fifty to sixty percent of our traffic [03:14.91]used to spike at lunches on weekdays. [03:17.97]That was due to corporates accessing our website [03:21.36]when they used to order lunch. [03:22.70]And right now, weekends are also very heavy traffic for us." [03:26.94]In a separate report, GSMA, [03:29.73]the global trade group for the mobile industry, says [03:34.06]Africa is the world's fastest growing mobile phone market. [03:38.15]Africa has the second largest number [03:41.73]of mobile phone connections after Asia. [03:44.37]And that's the VOA Special English Technology Report, [03:49.45]Transcripts, MP3s and podcasts are at www.hxen.com. [03:57.16]I'm June Simms.如果您也喜欢 恒星英语学习网 www.hxen.com 请与您的朋友分享...
